Run a Little, Swim a Lot.

About two weeks ago...Fallon and I joined the YMCA. I have really been loving it. About a year ago, I got intensely interested in fitness. It wasn't for the sake of pride or anything like that, but I just wanted the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are fit. At first I strictly rode a bike, but then I branched out into running and found what I loved. Almost directly after I ran my first 5K in September, I've been bogged down with a hip injury. It has been a bear to deal with and incredibly discouraging. I tried to ignore it and not worry about it, but that wasn't a smart choice. After a month and half off, I have just gotten back to running. I am trying to go easy and not require too much, too fast. So far, after running a mile or a mile and a half every other day for the past two weeks...I haven't had any trouble. I'm hoping that continues to remain the case.

Because the YMCA has a pool, I'm taking advantage of it. I am incredibly new to swimming laps. Other people smoothly whiz by in their lanes and I am struggling after the first couple laps. It's kind of sad. The weight room is another sad place for me. I look around and everyone is pumping 50+, 100+ pounds and I am doing the best I can with 30. ;-)

I am having fun with the whole experience though!

Oliver and I just began working out at the YMCA's gym a couple weeks ago too! Today is our 3rd (last) orientation with a personal trainer (she has been showing us how to use the equipment and how much we should start with). I enjoy running during the warmer months, but absolutely dread getting "suited up" to run in the very cold weather, so working out at the gym has been a nice replacement.

It's been really fun so far! :)
